Ballooning safely

Safety is our top priority

Ballooning with Bertels Ballooning is absolutely safe. Because our pilots are experienced, professional and trained balloonists. They have all earned their commercial ballooning licenses and participate in regular continuing education and check-ups. Our hot-air balloons are inspected and approved according to EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) guidelines.

The balloons are equipped with a transponder and aeronautical radio. This enables us to fly in the vicinity of airports (except for Zaventem) in a safe and controlled manner.

Meteorological situation

We continuously monitor the weather situation. Our chief pilot makes a daily analysis of the weather conditions and decides whether these conditions are hazardous to flying. If the weather is unstable or if the surface wind is too strong, ballooning is not possible. Our pilot always has the final decision when it comes to taking off and flying. In the event of a sudden change in the weather (rapidly developing thunderstorms, wind gusts), the balloon ride may be cancelled at the last minute. While this is not pleasant for the passengers, safety is our top priority, and together we will schedule a new flight as soon as possible.

You do not have to have a specific insurance policy for ballooning. We have the necessary insurance for carrying out our activities.

Age & general condition

Ballooning is good for young and old. However, we do recommend a minimum age of 6 years. And there is no maximum age. If you are in good physical condition, you can enjoy ballooning. The flight lasts approximately one hour, and the passengers must stand up throughout the flight. Pregnant women may not fly in hot-air balloons. In that case, it is better to postpone the balloon ride until after the baby is born. Better safe than sorry.

With Bertels Ballooning, you are in good hands. Together, we make sure you are safe during the flight of your dreams. Ready for take-off?
